In order to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2100, the IPCC recommends that carbon removal technologies should be able to remove up to 10 billion tonnes of CO₂ per year by 2050. This is quite a staggering number, and we can’t achieve it alone. However, recent research using large-scale models shows that in the UK alone, enhanced rock weathering has the potential to remove up to 30 million tonnes of CO₂ per year - enough to address 45% of the UK’s annual emissions.
