Where do you source your CO2 data from?

To help users better understand what our subscriptions buy them, we provide data that shows equivalent emissions from other typical activities.

E.g.

We know that quantifying emissions is tricky business and a lot of sources can provide differing numbers. So if you want to know how we derived these figures, we have provided the sources below for you to take a look at in your own time.

Cars:

We used the following calculator: https://co2.myclimate.org/en/car_calculators/new and decided to opt for an average mid-range petrol car with a fuel consumption of 8.42 litres/ 100km. This provides you with a figure of 0.343 kgs of CO2 per km of driving. To derive these figures in miles we used the normal 5 miles : 8 km ratio.

Smartphones:

We used the following source: https://reboxed.co/blogs/outsidethebox/the-carbon-footprint-of-your-phone-and-how-you-can-reduce-it, which derives their figures from Mike Berners Lee's book. We used the average phone use of 69 kg of CO2 per phone.

Jeans:

We used the following source: https://levistrauss.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Full-LCA-Results-Deck-FINAL.pdf, which states a pair of jeans uses 33.4 kg of CO2 per pair.
